Providing A Free Camp Experience since 1982
The Lions of Kentucky have been dedicated to providing a FREE camp experience for underserved children. The original camp was the Kentucky Lions Youth Camp for blind and visually impaired children founded in 1982. In 1992, the camp expanded to include deaf and hard-of-hearing children. The Lions purchased Camp Crescendo in March of 1996 and created two additional free camps. Those two camps were Camp Heart to Heart for children living in the shadows of HIV/AIDS in 1999 and Camp Freedom for children in foster or kinship care in 2006. These free, week-long camps are the heart of our mission. For 2025, Camp Heart-to-Heart unfortunately will not be offered.
In summer 2024, the Lions Camp Crescendo board of directors made the difficult decision to sell the camp property to return all of our focus to providing the best youth camps for our campers while doing so at no cost to the campers. With COVID-19 preventing us from receiving income from rental of our facilities, we could no longer provide these camps and maintain the camp property. The good news is that the new owner agreed to allow us to continue to host our camps at the facility for at least 5 years, and hopefully many more years to come.
